# Dynasty Chronicle — desktop beta 0.2.0-beta.2 Created by: SyncroTel Labs, LLC. Proprietary. Free for personal use. Redistribution requires written permission. Support / bugs: https://syncrotellabs.com/support ## Windows x64 Run the Setup.exe installer, choose a location, and launch from Start. The app bundles its runtime: no Node.js, npm, Python or source-build steps are required. The Windows build is unsigned; it has not been certified by Microsoft. Verify the download checksum and source. Do not disable security software to install it. ## Linux x64 Run the .run installer from a terminal: `sh Dynasty-Chronicle-0.2.0-beta.2-Linux-x64-Install.run`. It asks before installing into ~/.local/opt/dynasty-chronicle and creates a menu shortcut. No sudo is needed. A previous installation is moved aside for rollback. The desktop needs GTK3/NSS/graphics libraries and functioning Chromium sandbox / user namespaces. No Python or Node.js installation is needed. Do not use --no-sandbox. ## First launch — optional AI Both platforms offer **Use built-in responses** or **Set up local AI** on first launch. Built-in responses need no download/account. Local AI downloads official Ollama and then Google's gemma3:4b model (roughly 3.3 GB plus several GB for Ollama). The third-party licenses and hardware requirements apply separately. No downloaded installer runs silently. The tray's Optional AI → Download / installation status opens the download folder and provides installation guidance. Review the installer; approve it on the PC. Linux system changes may need sudo. After installing and starting Ollama, choose Continue to download the model, then Use local AI to activate CPU-only responses. Existing provider settings are replaced only after that explicit choice. Skip, retry and cancel are supported. Cancellation does not uninstall Ollama or delete cached model layers. No real installer/model downloads were performed as part of automated tests. ## Connect the game UE4SS must already be installed and compatible with your game. Close Medieval Dynasty. From the tray choose Install / update collector and select your game's installation folder. Confirm the preview path and that the game is closed. Only the Chronicle collector and its mods.txt entry are changed, with backups. Never hot-reload it. First-load safety remains enabled. Native crashes remain possible: back up game saves and treat this as an as-is beta, not a stability guarantee. The app works offline with the last good snapshot. Fresh installations have no personal save snapshot; demo data must not be treated as your settlement. ## Update notices After the desktop helper is ready (and first-run setup finishes), the app makes one background HTTPS request per desktop launch to https://syncrotellabs.com/support/updates/dynasty-chronicle.json. The request has an eight-second timeout and no game data, API keys, pairing tokens, device identifiers, installed version, or personal records in its payload. Like any website request, the server can see the connection's IP address and normal HTTP metadata. This is a version-announcement check, not an automatic installer. A newer published version offers Open support & downloads, Later, or Skip this version. Skipping is remembered; manual checks can revisit a skipped release. Use the tray's Check for updates at startup toggle to disable background checks, or Check for updates to request one manually. Offline, missing, or invalid feeds are silent at startup. No automatic retries or periodic polling are performed. The support-site feed is not yet deployed; notices will work after it is published. ## LAN and privacy LAN is off by default. Enable it from the tray and copy the private pairing link to your iPad. Allow ports 3000/43117 only on a trusted private network. Do not port-forward them; HTTP LAN traffic is not encrypted. Paired users share access to records/settings. Cloud APIs are optional and send selected letter/game context to your chosen provider; configure them under Messages if desired. No support account is needed to run the app. No auto-updater or automatic bug upload is included. ## Backups / uninstall Records remain in ~/.local/state/dynasty-chronicle and settings/secrets in ~/.config/dynasty-chronicle (under %USERPROFILE% on Windows). Copy both folders privately with the app stopped before upgrading. Settings' backup export does not replace a game-save backup. Logs in ~/.cache/dynasty-chronicle are private. Before uninstalling, close the game and choose Disable collector from the tray. Exit the app. Windows: use Installed apps → Dynasty Chronicle → Uninstall. Linux: remove the menu shortcut and installed application folder manually; retain the timestamped previous folder if you need rollback. Uninstalling the app does not remove your journal/config, UE4SS, other mods, Ollama or its models. ## Protection and testing limits Development source, source maps and debugging interfaces are not distributed. The application is minified/obfuscated and packaged in ASAR; this is a deterrent, not encryption or a promise that code cannot be inspected. Browser assets and the UE4SS Lua integration remain technically inspectable. Third-party licenses and credits are retained under resources/licenses; runtime notices remain alongside the executable. No game DLLs or UE4SS binaries are bundled. Windows native operation and installer flows still need the laptop test. Linux runtime self-tests do not prove in-game stability or cross-distribution compatibility. Map redistribution permission remains a public-release gate on SyncroTel's website.
